Follow My Blog Friday (6)

'Follow My Blog' Friday is a meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. The idea is to meet other book bloggers, and get to know one another. What a fun idea, and opportunity!

Featured blogs: Anonymous Reads & Keeping Up with Roxy's Books

Q: Keeping with the Spirit of Giving this season, what book do you think EVERYONE should read and if you could, you would buy it for all of your family and friends?

Ugh, seriously? This list could be ENDLESS.

A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens

But, umm... you know it's Christmas, right? Have ya'll read A Christmas Carol, by the one and only Charles Dickens? A couple of years ago I started a tradition for myself: I re-read it every year... and it's more and more magic each time. You can download it as a feebie eBook from Amazon. Go! Go read!

I swear everyone should read this. Dickens wit and humour shines through on every page, and every sentence. He brings Victorian London to life with vivid prose, sparkling metaphors and a magic that is his alone.

The Night Huntress Series, Jeaniene Frost

I tell EVERYONE to read Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress books. If you're into Paranormal, and like vampires, kick-ass heroines, and unbelievable hot male heroes, I don't know why you haven't read this yet! Think Buffy, if Spike and Angel combined were hotter than the fire of a thousand suns XD

Poison Study, Maria V. Snyder

And Maria V. Snyder is one of my favourite authors, and I believe one of the most underrated around today. Poison Study is absolute magic, and if you guys like Graceling and Fire by Kristin Cashore, you have to read this right now.

Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling

Also, I don't know how I forgot this, but: Harry Potter. Thanks to Anonymous Reads for being far cleverer than me! You guys, you know the hysteria that surrouns these books? The dressed up kids at cinemas, and at bookstores when they were released? There was a reason. Harry Potter is pure magic, distilled into literary form. J.K. Rowling is a genius. Don't put off reading them one minute more!

  6. @Kristan: Oh HELL yes. I would very happily have Bones in my Christmas stocking... except Cat scares me, and I'm not sure how I'd explain it to my husband, who I'm rather fond of :D

  12. HARRY POTTER <3 No man, woman, child, martian, faery or flobberworm should go through life without reading these books. They are the very reason for the creation of bookworms (what? stories existed before HP? nonesense!).

I DEFINITELY need to read the Night Huntress and Poison Study series!!

  13. Hi! Yeah, books are classics and popular for a reason. :-P I think there ARE certain books that EVERYONE should at least attempt to read but you're right... book suggestions are really tailored to each person individually.

  16. Great, great picks Sarah!! I chose Harry Potter. No other choice for me. It was my first literary love lol :) I've been meaning to read Poison Study for a while now. Guess I need to go buy it, huh?? You made it sound great, and the comparison to Graceling and Fire couldn't have made me want to read it more. Thanks for that, and I hope you have a great weekend!

  24. I promised a couple of fellow book bloggers I wouldn’t “machine gun” my Follow Friday posts on the blogs I visit but this week’s Follow Friday has inspired me to make an important exception.

The book I think everyone should read is a work of non-fiction called The Four Hour Workweek. The thing is, the book is very well written and entertaining so it reads like a work of fiction. What the book can do to enhance your life and change the way you live day by day seems unbelievable on its face which might mark it a legitimate work of fiction for the skeptics out there.

If you read this work of non-fiction and really follow the advice it gives and apply the insights you’ll gain, your life will read like a modern tale fairytale.

I encourage, implore and even insist you follow me back to my book blog so you can find out why I think EVERYONE should read The Four Hour Workweek – http://www.howardsherman.net
