Waiting On Wednesday (12): Dead To You, Lisa McMann

What is it?
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Dead To You
by Lisa McMann (author website)
Pub Date: Feb. 7th 2012 by Simon Pulse Australia

From Goodreads:
Ethan was abducted from his front yard when he was just seven years old. Now, at sixteen, he has returned to his family. It's a miracle... at first. Then the tensions start to build. His reintroduction to his old life isn't going smoothly, and his family is tearing apart all over again. If only Ethan could remember something, anything, about his life before, he'd be able to put the pieces back together. But there's something that's keeping his memory blocked. Something unspeakable...

I am a massive Lisa McMann fan. From the first page of her first novel I was hooked. I loved Wake, I loved Fade, I loved Gone. Love doesn't quite sum up how I feel about Cryer's Cross. It was extraordinary. Well, the magnificent Ms McMann has a new book coming out!  Lisa's writing is beautiful and unique, though perhaps an acquired taste, but she also has this incredible knack for delivering chillis and thrills, heartbreak and heartachingly sweet romance in a very unique, completely wonderful way that is entirely her own. Excited? Err... that's a word for it, I suppose.

So you guys, are you a McMann fan? Just curious.
And what are YOU waiting on this week?

  2. This is so funny! or maybe not. But when I read this my first thought was, "Wait! Why is she posting this when it's only Tuesday. Maybe I should say something!" and then I remembered you're in Australia. And I am a brain fart away from needing help.

    Whoopsies :/

I guess I just wanted to say that I am SOOOO excited about this book, too! I LOVED Wake,Fade and Gone and how different they were. Still haven't read Cryer's Cross but you know what reading is like for me at the moment.

Awesome! Now that I've taken up all this place on your blog, I think I'll be leaving now...

    1. Aw, no! COME BACK! *sobs*
Take up as much space as you like ;)

LISA MCMANN IS AMAZING! I ADORE Wake/Fade/Gone (which I always have an urge to write in ALL CAPS), and Cryer's Cross is AMAZING. For reals. I kind of like that they're shortish books you can read in one sitting? But yeah, finding time for that one sitting? HARD.

It's TOTALLY WEDNESDAY. Get back to me when you figure out the time travel ;)

    1. Eek, Rebecca, she's fabulous! WAKE is a really good place to start, and it'll give you a good feeling for her writing. I know a few people have found it kind of polarising, but it totally works for me :)

  4. I haven't read ANYTHING by Lisa McMann either, though I own Wake, Fade, and Cryer's Cross. I swear. Will there ever be a day when I'm not cringing over some book I haven't read? Actually, I'm pretty sure the answer to that is no. I add books to my shelves and to-read list waaaaay faster than I can actually read them! Lol.

    1. Mwaha! I know the feeling... on the bright side, they're really short and quick to read? So you could knock all threew out in a weekend and reduce the pile? :D

She's wonderful, and I really hope you enjoy her books if you get to them! They're realyl quick, short reads, too, so they're nice to read in a single afternoon... sometimes I just like the act of actually FINISHING a book, if you know what I mean?

    2. Oh, and SERIOUSLY. Lisa has a real knack for creepy :S
I can't even begin to imagine the impact it'd have on a family.. just *shudders* All those years not knowing? :(

  7. I have to admit that I was not a huge fan of her writing style in Wake. I mean, I loved the idea of that story, I just couldn't connect to it with all those short, broken sentences.. I still have this one on my wishlist though, hopefully I'll like it more:)

    1. Aaaah, yes. I think her writing is kind of polarising? I really loved it, but I know a LOT of people don't, and that's fair enough. It's kind of a shame... the writing is just so... I guess OBVIOUS, that if it's irritating you, it's not something you could really look past? I mean, as opposed to random first person past tense? It's kind of easier to ignore?

  8. I haven't read any of her book before, but I really want to read this one!

  9. I've seen this book before but the only McMann series I've read are Wake, Fade and Gone! I haven't read Cryer's Cross but I'm meaning to! This book sounds awesome, Sarah! ♥ I can't wait to get it. Thank you for sharing this with us! :)

    1. Oh, Celine, of you liked the WAKE series you'll like Cryer's Cross. It's sad, but it has a wonderfully hot boy and she knows how to ring the creep factor!

  10. OOOOOOOH what unspeakable thing is blocking his memories?! I've only read Cryer's Cross so far, but I really loved it. So I'm definitely intrigued to read anything else she writes. Her writing style is certainly different to what I usually read, but there's something about it that demands my attention and uh... lotsa creepy from Cryer's Cross, so I know she can pull off the eerie!

    1. I know, right? And after Cryer's Cross I totally don't know what to expect from her! Is it paranormal? Is it simply psychological? IS IT SECRET GOVERNMENT EXPERIMENTS??? WHAT IS IT? ADAJFSJFHLSHF!

I think Cryer's Cross is a good intro to her work. It's a standalone, so it's satisfying, and it'll give you a feeling for her writing... you know, you'll either like it or not? WANT WANT WANT! CC gave me the willies!

    4. AGH. WHY ISN'T IT.... oooh February, that's not long away! Damnit, another soon-to-be-released book inching it's way to the top of my TBR. LE SIGH.

Oh man. I WILL NEVER LOOK AT OLD SCHOOL DESKS THE SAME WAY AGAIN. Granted, they probably don't exist anymore haha but still. CREEPTASTIC. And kinda heartbreaking =\

Oh and btw, I am totally not being rude with my very slow responses to.. well... everything. Twitter, goodreads, etc. I shall be much more productive when Feb starts, since Lisa and I are spending most nights growling over infuriating men who don't want to work in with our plans for next month :P

    5. Because it's not like it's due to having that thing called a 'life' outside of the internet. Reality? Huh??

And okay, I feel totally compelled to spam your post with random comments right now because it's 3:14am and I'm not remotely tired. But maybe a little delirious, so I should probably sleep and OMG I AM spamming aren't I? Rambling about a topic that doesn't relate to the original topic is spamming, right? So. Er. That Ethan kid.... in a bit of a bind, eh? =\

    6. Mwahaha! Firstly: school desk=EVIL AND WRONG. That's it, my future children are being home-schooled.

Secondly! Why, Brodie? WHY DON'T YOU LOVE ME?
Translation: oh my goodness I know you're busy and it's fine, and I promise I wot abandon you to be the villain across the street's psychotic sidekick instead.
Qnd also, 3:15AM comments are WIN. I wake up in trnmorning and cackle... I mean giggle. Yes. XD

  11. I wanted to read the Wake series FOREVER and when I did pick it up and saw how the writing was, it weirded me out. Definitely not what I was used to so I never picked it up again but now that I expanded my reading selection immensely and you recommend Lisa writing greatly I might just have to pick up Wake again:D

    1. I *DO* think it's kind of polarising... like, you'll either like it or loathe it. Oh! Did you read/like The Statistical Probability of Love At First Sight (I'ms o sorry, I can't remember)? The Tense and POV is the same, but I think Lisa's still may have a different feel. Anyway! My point: If you like TSPOLAFS, maybe it won't bother you?

    1. Hmmm... her other books have been these kind of dark YA paranormals... but they deal with really heavy issues... so I'm really looking forward to this one! She really knows howe to bring the raw, emotional intensity.
