Waiting On Wednesday (13): Timeless, Gail Carriger

What is it?
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Timeless
by Gail Carriger (author website)
Pub Date: March 1st 2012 by Orbit

From Goodreads:
Alexia Tarabotti, Lady Maccon, has settled into domestic bliss. Of course, being Alexia, such bliss involves integrating werewolves into London High society, living in a vampire's second best closet, and coping with a precocious toddler who is prone to turning supernatural willy-nilly. Even Ivy Tunstell's acting troupe's latest play, disastrous to say the least, cannot put a damper on Alexia's enjoyment of her new London lifestyle.

Until, that is, she receives a summons from Alexandria that cannot be ignored. With husband, child, and Tunstells in tow, Alexia boards a steamer to cross the Mediterranean. But Egypt may hold more mysteries than even the indomitable Lady Maccon can handle. What does the vampire Queen of the Alexandria Hive really want from her? Why is the God-Breaker Plague suddenly expanding? And how has Ivy Tunstell suddenly become the most popular actress in all the British Empire?

Sometimes it's fun just to read for the fun of it. And the fabulous Gail Carriger's steampunk/paranormal/historical Parasol Protectorate series is just that: FUN. Pure and simple. This is the last in the hilarious series, and while I'm sad to see it end, I'm excited to see where Carriger leaves it. Plus, following Timeless, Carriger has a companion series coming out, following a key character from this book. L'excitment!

  1. I haven't read this series but sometimes it's good to be able to start a series once the whole thing has been published, then I don't have to wait for the books to be released!

    1. I actually SPECIFICALLY do that. The wait inbetween some series is KILLER. I can't imagine if I had to wait inbetween Vampire Academy books. It makes me feel ill just thinking about it :S

  3. Is it because I only follow you via RSS and therefore never really see your blogtheme or have you changed the header a little? o.o I'm so confused. Or did I say that already and forgot.. Damn. I need some sleep. XD

Erm.. Ah, right! Great pick! I have the first two sitting on my shelf, and the more I see how people are excited about the series, the more I think about reading them. But something still keeps me hesitating.

    Anyway, happy Wednesday!

    1. I don't *think* I have? What's changed?
Ummmm... maybe that's not true. I think I *may* have changed the banner (the photographic banner), but it would have been in November?

Patricia! THEY'RE SO MUCH FUN! Just... uh... trust me: don't read that second book unless you have the third standing by. It's an EVIL cliffhanger ending >:D

    1. They're enormous fun. And Soulless (the first book) works really well as a standalone, so it would totally give you a taste of them if you're interested in trying them? :D

YESSSS! I love that name :D

  9. Oh god, this must be the worst cover in the Parasol Protectorate series so far. And they started out so pretty and classy ):

Anyway, the story itself will probably be made of awesome. Gail Carriger is great.

    1. THANK YOU! YESSSS! I've been avoiding saying anything, but I didn't like Heartless' cover AT ALL, and this is just as bad :S

I get w/the last one the different clothing and angle were maybe allowing it to imply Alexia's... ah... state? But yes. I think it's a little bit rubbish, and it sucks, because the first cover was EPIC.

Soulless (the first one) is a great little standalone read. The rest of the books are more interlinked :)

  12. Oh my gosh, Sarah, sometimes it's like you read my mind!! <33 I just read an amazing review for Soulless the other day and my first reactions was, "I NEED THIS!" And now that the next book in the series is coming out, it's definitely making me more adamant to read book one before this release date! ;)

Amazing pick for your WOW this week, Sarah-bara! And LOOOOOOOL I love that you're practicing your French! x) If I could learn any second language in the world fluently, French would always be my number one! :) <3

    1. Steampink! I ♥ it!
These are seriously cute books, and they're SOOOO much fun!

And as to why you've not read yet? Err... maybe it's because of the 200 other books you have sitting in a pile waiting for your attention? XD
