Blogspiration (12): Quotes to Live Your Life By... and Tattoo

Blogspiration is a weekly meme hosted by GrowingUp YA & Saz101. The meme was created to help spark inspiration among bloggers, readers & writers alike. An inspirational quote/picture/video is posted weekly, on the day of the author's choosing, so that it may inspire creativity, conversation & just a little SOMETHING.

This week, my amazing... err... I was going to say my amazing co-host/Blogspirationeer-in-arms, but instead, I'm just going to say my amazing Kristin (I'm calling dibs on her) asked us all a question.
What is your favorite literary quote? Think about that ONE quote that speaks to your soul. The one you've considered tattooing onto your body or the one you've plastered all over the walls of, heart?
You have no idea how much I struggled with this. In fact, I've been mulling it over for days. Guys, I take the idea of tattoos seriously. They're permanent. They're awesome, but permanent. In fact, I've had dreams in the past of getting a tattoo only to see it in the mirror only to FREAK. OUT.
Truly? There are two things I've actually, truly, genuinely considered having tattoed on my person before. The first, and I've thought of this since I was 17 (that's a while), is this: "Faith, hope & love." It's from a book, I swear. Corinthians 13:13. The other, is this:

Just the one word. I don't need to tell you all how much I love Harry Potter, but this one moment is one of the most heartbreaking and moving for me. And the one simple word speaks to me on so many levels, in so many ways. Yes. I'm a hopeless romantic.

ANYWAY. Kristin mentioned 'tattoo'. I got hung up on it. MOVING ALONG. A few of my favorite quotes:
“I would always rather be happy than dignified.”
― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre
I can't tell you how much I adore Jane Eyre. It defies explanation.
'Love is a luxury.'
'No. Love is an element.'
An element. Like air to breathe. Earth to stand on.
Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Laini Taylor
“We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.”
― Veronica Roth, Divergent
"Don't let the muggles get you down"
J.K. Rowling
Words to live your life by. And lastly:
"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
J.K. Rowling
Uh, also? I could just quote the entirety of Saving June at you ;D

  1. I love that Daughter of Smoke and Bone bit. Laini is just... terrific at painting her meanings with words put together in a specific way that incites such wonder. And this is one of my fave quotes:

"Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
    J.K. Rowling

    It's beautiful in its simplicity.

    1. Laini! YES! EXACTLY! She has this amazing talent for creating the most... vivid images and beautiful phrases/

Oooooh, and the Dumbledore quote? One of my most exceptional favorites :)

  2. OH Sarah!! The quotes you've chose are so beautiful <3 <3 ANd I totally share your opinion toward tattooes :P I would freak out too, and the pain? oh hoh, thanks, but no thanks :D :D haha, so really. They aren't for me :P

    1. Aw, thanks Nea! Eeek... yes.. the pain... welllll... that's a completely other consideration :S

  3. I SO know what you mean. Tattoo's can look super pretty or incredible sexy (there's something about ink on a guy that sometimes, if done right, makes this fangirl SWOON). But for me, personally, I have a fear of ANYTHING permanent or committment, really. I like having an exit and save for A laser thingy or whatever, tattoos are FOREVER. But anyway, on a less serious note... haha.

Fantasy Tattooing - Oh my gosh. Yes. "ALWAYS". The meaning of that word forever changed the day we read Deathly Hallows. Sigh. And yes yes yes to DOSAB, Divergent and Muggle quoteage. And especialy THE Dumblydorr one. Honestly, anything Dumbledore says is worthy of inking.

Really, if I ever DID decide on a tattoo, it would absolutely have to be something to do with HP. A quote or a symbol, because it's just been such a huge part of my life for a freaking DECADE already. So I know I'd never regret it. Just maybe not a Dark Mark :P

    1. YES! Oh my goodness... what is it about well-done ink ona man that is just so damn delicious? Love it. I mean, no-one's as delicious as husbandman, but nevertheless :P

The fear of permanence? EXACTLY. Ugh. I can barely even commit to a haircut, and I can't cope with permanently colouring my hair... even though it, like, grows out?

But yes... a tattoo? It'd HAVE to be Harry something... but WHERE? And WHAT exactly??

MAHAHA!!! Why had I not even thought of a DM? THat is BEYOND awesome.

  4. Cool meme! And i enjoyed the quotes. Thank you for the inspiration

  5. I loved all of your quotes! This is such a great meme/post.

If I were to asked what quotes I would tattoo on my skin, I would put this one word. ASHES.

He had reduced me to ashes.
    And now I would rise.”

ps. Im joining this meme today! x

I loved the meaning of this quote, it has a lot of meaning if you just think about it. that no matter what happened, no matter what mistake we made, we can always start over again. Like the Phoenix from the ashes, we rise! x

    1. Oh goodness... Lalaine, I read this one on your blog, and it's AMAZING. The quote gives me CHILLS!

  6. Sarah!
I absolutely, positively love all your quotes! "always" has also left a huge mark on my heart! Snap is my favorite tragic hero.
I never heard the Jane erne quote before. It speaks volumes! I'll rather live happily then bend to other peoples expectations.
    Fantastic blogspiration!

    1. Aw, Rachel! Thank you, m'dear!

That Always quote just... oh, it undoes me :D
      Snape's mine, too :)

Ooooh, have you read Jane Eyre? It's perfection... it's as readable and romantic and utterly AMAZING as modern romance or romantic YA I've read. I can't recommend it highly enough, and I LOVE that quote. I love Jane, because she's... she's like that. She thinks like that. LOVE!

  7. I also adore Jane Eyre (and Harry Potter, of course)! I once thought about getting one of several quotes from Edgar Allan Poe as a tattoo, but considering that I'm terrified of needles and have the horrible tendency to be a victim of buyer's remorse, I figured a tattoo probably wasn't the best option for me! Lol.

    1. "and have the horrible tendency to be a victim of buyer's remorse." <--- THIS! EXACTLY THIS! That's my problem. Maybe henna tattoos for me :D

  8. Ahh I am too indecisive for a tattoo but those are great choices! HP is always perfect and such a big part of my life that I would and so many people have beautiful HP tattoos.

    1. Eeeek, Elena, YES! I have that same problem. I've thought about getting the same tatto for years and years and years, and I'm still too scared to commit. My other problem? I'm really hung up on typefaces... and I'm worried I'd have it tattoed in a font I love now, but I'll hate in 12 months? :S

    2. OH. MY. GOD.

I have tears running down my face I laughed so hard.

It's your font comment that undid me. It's SO. PERFECTLY. YOU.

      P-M xoxo

  9. I actually want to get the one I chose tattooed on me, along with the Barrons tattoo. :P

    PS: Love that picture!

    1. Oh. my. goodness.

      Oh goodness, I love Barrons.
AND THE BARRONS TATTOO!!!!! EEEE! ON your neck?? :D

  10. I am with you on the Snape quote there. That is probably my favourite line from his character and it's SO heartbreaking. :'(

You know, I wouldn't mind having the whole HP series tattooed all over me. ;)

    1. *eyes glaze over*
Oh my goodness... you could have 'Always' tattooed right over your heart... I kind of love this idea... now THERE's a tattoo you'd NEVER REGRET :D

  11. AWWW, I like those so much. I really like the Divergent one. I just won that book and I can't wait to read it. Yeah, I didn't really choose a quote that I would tattoo on me only because I could never get a tattoo. Not because I don't want one, but because my mom would literally kill me if I got one. I am not joking. She already showed me the place in the backyard where she would bury my body. At least it's near a tree. I always like a nice view.

    1. AHAFHGDKFK! OMG! Jennifer, I can't WAIT for you to read and review! I LOVE your reviews, and I LOVE how you... I don't know... articulate the experience. So excited for you to read it, because I swear, it's one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Mahaha! I don't know whether to laugh or be frightened for you... I have this actual vision of you standing outside with your amazing, long, shiny hair blowing in the wind, nodding solemnly to your mum as she points out where she's going to bury your corpse!

Err... at least the view's good? I love that your pleased with this :P

  12. Okay, so I am totally with you. I got a henna tattoo last week and I love it, but I realized, once I was at home, that my heart stopped every single time I moved my arm and saw it out of the corner of my eye. Haha! I get how its being permanent is scary.

"Faith, hope, & love" and "Always" are beautiful quotes, as simple as they are. Daughter of Smoke and Bone sounds amazing, by the way; I want to read it! The Divergent quote is lovely, too. And anything by JKR or Charlotte Brontë is great.

Thanks so much for sharing and for having this theme! xx

    1. Aw, thanks Käthe
Ugh! I'm so tempted, but I'm so scared of myself. My friend has an AMAZING tattoo, right up the inside of his forearm and... OK, seriously, it's amazing. I'm envious. But I'm HELLA scared.

  13. If I'm not mistaken, Brodie also uses that picture for her Twitter profile and stupid Celine, I did not recognize it from Harry Potter at all. Worst, I did not know that it was Snape who said that. *slaps forehead billion times*

AAAA...Sarah! I'm so sorry I haven't been commenting on your blog lately. I finally finished my test today which means I can finally stalk your blog again!! <3

LOVE THIS MEME FOREVER! I am seriously going to participate again this week! It's holiday so I have more time for blogging!

    My favourite quote:

"I love you as certain dark things are loved, secretly, between the shadow and the soul"

    Sounds familiar? ;)

    1. You are NOT mistaken! In fact, I felt kind of guilty for posting the image, like I was stealering her thunders :P

Hehehe! IT IS SNAPE! Who new he could be such a romantic? *sigh* he's one of my fave characters, Celine ♥

Aw, m'dear, don't be silly! For one, I'm sure you have, and for two: school has to come first. I've been a really slow commenter recently, too. SOOOO busy.

Oh man oh man oh man. CHILLS.

      Let's kidnap St.Clair?

  14. Yes, I think some people forget how permanent tattoos are (I know you can have them lasered but I doubt most people would go through with that!)

You chose some beautiful quotes, Sarah!

    1. I mean... I KNOW you can have them lasered... but even so, there's still scarring. It's permanent. It's the same as you can have a broken bone re-set, but you'll live with the ache for the rest of your life :S

      Thanks Mandee! xx

  15. As much as I don't like the idea of permanent tattoos, I love the quotes. Especially JK Rowling's and Jane Eyre's. Thanks for sharing,Sarah!

    1. Thanks Mesa! Oh, seriously, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jane Eyre and... well... all Harry Potter :D

  16. Have I mentioned I love you? Because I could never say it enough :D

You already know how I feel about "Always." It's absolute perfection!

Faith, hope & Love!! Seriously? That's gorgeous and inspiring and all sorts of great emotions rolled into one. Now, where would you get it inked??!! THAT is the question!

AND HOMG!!! SAVING JUNE???!!! YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! *swoons* Jake Tolan has to be one of THE SEXIEST contemporary book boyfriend in YA history! #truestory

Faith, hope, love! Seriously! On the inside of my left wrist. And I've being genuinely considering it for... err... ten years? But it's the committment thing! Even putting the pink in my hair is scary, and I know it'll wash out in a few weeks!

And I SERIOUSLY considered getting 'Always' tattooed there, but then it felt like a betrayal to the thought of the 'faith, hope, love'. Nooo?

    2. You have two wrists! Faith, hope, love. Always. See, it works!
And the greatest of these is love.

    3. I like where you're going with this Alex!

    4. See, Kristin agrees with me. It MUST be a good idea. :-D

  17. -bows down to your greatness-

I love all of your quotes, I do! :)
Especially the Harry Potter ones! And I love that you love the Divergent quote as much as I did!

I loved the Snape quote, it's so amazing.
And you should always turn on the light, always, always, always. <33

  18. I totally love these quotes!! I didn't check my email and see this question but I already know the answer to it because I have my tattoo all drawn out for when my wedding is done and dusted.

It's not from a book though, it's from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

"I'm afraid so, you're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret, all the best people are..."

    So. Excited.

But yes, tattoos are very scary. I know I'll wimp out at least a few times...

  19. Ohh, I absolutely love these quotes... They're awesome! I especially love J.K. Rowlings quotes--they're all so wonderfully worded and true! Pretty words... Lol, I actually was gifted a quote book once. ;P Great Blogspiration!!
