Blogspiration (36): Equality is Necessity

Blogspiration is a weekly meme hosted by GrowingUp YA & Saz101. The meme was created to help spark inspiration among bloggers, readers & writers alike. An inspirational quote/picture/video is posted weekly, on the day of the author's choosing, so that it may inspire creativity, conversation & just a little SOMETHING.

"Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity, we need it to stand on this earth as men and women, and the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who's confronted with it. We need Equality, and we kind of need it now. 'So why do you write these strong female characters?' Because you're still asking that question."
- Joss Whedon
I've been a Whedon fangirl since the beginning, first with Buffy, then Angel, then Firefly and Dollhouse. This is the man that wrote Toy Story and The Avengers, and a man who'll always, always, always make me sit up and listen.

If the quote above doesn't give you chills, I don't know what will, because this message isn't about feminism--it's about equality, it's about respect, and it's about love. I love.

We have a great big familiy of Joss Whedon fangirls, and I'm so glad you love! He's amazing. But I love how he writes these inspiring woman characters, and inspiring male characters. I love how he sees the strength and weakness and heart in everyone. It's what makes an amazing story ♥

  16. Oh my gosh, chills! I don't know how I've never seen that speech before! Joss Whedon is a remarkable man and a great writer of TV. Firefly is one of my all time favorite shows. Avengers was amazing. Toy Story is genius. I like Buffy, but it's not my favorite. And I need to watch Dollhouse!

    1. KRISTEN! I'd never seen it either, but I love it SO much.

And seriously, you have AMAZING taste. Firefly is sci-fi perfection. I've been a Buffy fangirl since the beginning, but coming back to it, and seeing the cheesy SFX with fresh eyes, I can see it not appealing to everyone ;D
