I want to start this post by thanking Sarah for being kind enough to host me on the blog today. It’s quite nice here, I’ve always wanted to be here and it feels good to finally be here. But um... moving on! So, I am here today to talk to you all about inspiration. With her lovely, and amazing, meme Blogspiration, I find myself often inspired by Sarah and so it felt fitting to write a guest post on inspiration.
The most ironic part of this post is that as I went to start writing it, I found myself lacking inspiration. Ideas for the post have been going around in my head for days but as soon as I found the time to sit down and actually start writing, it was as though every idea simply flew out of my brain. Fortunately, I then walked away and when I came back, the things I wanted to write about all came back to me.
And that is the very essence of inspiration, it comes and goes like the traffic on the motorway. Sometimes it will be flowing nicely, traffic speeding through as it should, and then the next minute there will be a road block, everything coming to a complete and utter standstill. A phantom bout of traffic that is indescribably annoying, and yet, starts to move again without any rhyme nor reason. For reasons unknown to man, inspiration has a way of dropping in on of us
one moment, and then flying away the next.
But inspiration is everything, and it is everywhere. Everyone has the ability to be inspired, and what we get inspired by changes from person to person. Personally, I get inspired by words, nature, and often some really random things as well, but an artist may get inspired by an odd ink stain or the way the sun looks on a chair in the garden. Inspiration comes in many forms, for many different things but it would be incredibly difficult to create anything without it. And that is why the things we create and make with our own inspiration can often inspire someone else, because the simple act of creation is, in itself, inspiring.
For a good example of this, I find Sarah to be inspiring. All of her posts on this blog are absolutely amazing and, while filling me with a small sense of self-doubt, they also inspire me to do better, to work harder and to lace my words with more of me. But she is also an incredibly supportive person and that support is inspiring as well. She has so much energy and love to share around and it really brings out the best in everyone around her – including me! When I got inspired for my blog INK post, I also wasn’t sure it was any good, and it was Sarah I went to first to get a reaction because I knew that if it wasn’t quite right, she would be honest enough to tell me. Well, her reaction inspired me enough to enter – and how glad am I now that I did!
That inspiration she gave me has continued throughout the competition and now with all of this campaigning that I am doing, I’ve been inspired once more. I have a goal, a journey to be met and so ideas keep forcing themselves into my brain – often when I’m too busy to really think about them too – and this inspiration would be non-existent if it hadn’t been for Sarah (and that is another reason that this post is all about inspiration!). This campaign has made me realise that putting myself out there, using social media to broadcast myself, and to really market myself is something that I have been enjoying, something that has me inspired, and that is truly great. It means that I know that even if I don’t get this job, I will sign up to do more marketing help in the future – such as street teams for books!
But finally I feel it necessary to mention how blogging is a way of channelling our inspiration. I, for one, certainly blog when I am inspired as it helps to get the words onto the document easier, but I have also found that having a blog creates inspiration within me. When I least expect it, ideas for posts, memes, or features come crashing into me and I get excited, wanting to share these thoughts with my followers. These ideas would have never hit me before because I would
never have had a blog in which to channel that inspiration. In a way, inspiration and blogging go hand in hand and around in a circle all at the same time.
Do you agree? What has inspired you lately?
