The Best of 2012 Young Adult — Have Your Say!

Best of 2012 Young Adult
What a year. We've survived apocalypses, The Dreaded Alice during Goodreads downtime and getting the news we have to wait another year for more Stephanie Perkins. But, on the bright side, from historical to contemporary, dystopian to paranormal, 2012 has been an amazing year for Young Adult fiction. The Goodreads Choice Awards are well underway, but I'm super excited to be working with the nefarious mastermind behind Eleusinian Mysteries of Reading to bring you the chance to have your say on the books you love, with a ‘choice awards’ just for Young Adult!

Round 1 voting is CLOSED. Stay tuned, because your Finalists are going to be announced VERY soon!

  1. Yay! This seemed to be an amazing year for YA books!

For Best New Series, there's "Incarnate, Jodi Meadows" and "Newsoul, Jodi Meadows" although the series is Newsoul.

  7. Oh goodness. I MADE (with help) the list, and finished, and still didn't know who to vote for! Seriously. SOOO hard!

  8. Eeeee! Me too! I'm super excited :D I'm not surprised to see Veronica Rossi getting a LOT of love with Under the Never Sky, so it'll be super interesting to see who gets the most love with dystopian, given Insurgent took out the Goodreads Choice Awards ♥

  9. Voted! But I can't believe For Darkness Shows the Stars wasn't already on there! So great.

(It's a little confusing if it's supposed to be BOOK NAME, AUTHOR NAME or BOOK NAME by AUTHOR NAME.)

  10. What a brilliant idea! And two of my favourite bloggers hosting it? I love it even more! Also: That list is SCARY. So many good books to choose from; only one vote for each category. O__O Off to vote! ♥

  11. Omg love this.

Voting was so HARD omg because every book I've read and loved were in those lists and choosing between them was horrible :(

  12. Wow, that was fun. So happy I started reading YA again.

  15. Voted! I had to think hard about some picks. I also had to choose some books I still haven't read, because I didn't read any of the books :p So I picked the ones I can't wait for :)

    This was so much fun!

  17. Oh goodness. Liviania... uh... now that you mention it, I CAN'T EITHER O__O

Especially given Diana's short story is listed! Thanks so much for letting me know. That's been fixed. It's in Dystopian, Sci-Fi and best news series as a default :)

ooooh, and that's a good point. Either is valid, but you're right--it's not terribly clear. I've added something to the guidelines.

    your'e a gem! ♥

  18. Beccccccaaaaaa! ♥♥♥

Oh goodness. The list was fun to MAKE, but when I looked at it and considered my answers? *shudders*

    YES.
YES I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh my goodness. Jaz. YES. RIGHT?
It's like choosing a favorite child! *sobs*

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't mind what you read. I like your thoughts on ALL THE BOOKS.

But I do love that we can fangirl over YA together, sometimes :D

  21. *cackles*
MWAHAHAHA! It's DELIBERATE! TO TORTURE YOU!

    AHAHAH!

Except not really. OMG. Shirley. It was so hard to pick for me, too O__O

  22. Joooooo! ♥♥♥
I am SO excited to see the results, too! It was really fun to put together, too :)
    *huggles*

  23. Mel! ♥

Oh goodness, it's hard to pick, huh? So many amazing books, and there were a couple of categories where I wasn't sure what to vote, either ;D

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is so great, Sarah! I had such fun and am thrilled to see TFiOS- it got so many votes in various sections from me! (:

    ReplyDelete
  25. Eeee, Romi! Thank you!
I'm kind of ashamed to admit I haven't read TFiOS (yet. I actually own two copies) and... I need to fix this, huh? ♥

    ReplyDelete
  26. YES YES YES! I can't believe you haven't read it yet- it came out over 6 months ago and is pure gold! Have you not noticed it shining from your shelf, both copies reflecting the shine between each other, desperately trying to catch your attention?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well... I loaned one of them to my Mum, so it's there, shining along with my copy of Looking for Alaska... which... I also haven't read >__<

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hee, well, I can see how compiling this list would be really hard and even a couple of awesome books would end up slipping through the cracks!

    ReplyDelete
  29. *hangs head*
Yet it still does not assuage me shame *weeps*

    ReplyDelete
  30. AWESOME job guys...such a fabulous list! Thanks for putting this together! Gives us a chance to vote for some of our favourites other than Brigid! I must admit I was totally torn having to vote for EITHER Storm or Spark for best book! I think in that category you should allow 2 votes! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi! The list is great :D
I'm a bit confused by the eligibility of some of the nominees...
-Obsidian came out in November 2011 (or is it the paperback release date that counts?)
-Froi of the Exiles came out in October 2011 in Australia (if it's the American release date that counts then Quintana of Charyn shouldn't be nominated until next year...)
-Beautiful Disaster came out in May 2011 (it was rereleased by Atria this year, but I thought it'd still be a 2011 book...)

    ReplyDelete
  32. *flails about wildly* I HAD TO CHOOSE ONE BOOK FOR BEST, ONE BOOK! THAT IS SO MEAN!

    ReplyDelete
  33. OK, I'll try this in Explorer and see if it posts! :P You guys did a KICKASS job on this list! Really comprehensive; great that I got to vote for Brigid AND some of my other fave authors! Some really awesome books this year, though Elemental still rules! And I guess you just LOVE torturing us with Storm AND Spark in the Paranormal/Urban Fantasy category??! You guys are evil...and we LOVE it!

  34. [...] Sarah (saz101) has an awesome poll up for BEST YA OF 2012! [...]

  35. [...] Sarah (saz101) wants YOU to vote on the best YA in 2012. [...]

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, Andrea, you clever thing!

Obsidian and Froi are in there deliberately: Froi, for the US release date, because I know most of our US peeps only read it this year, and Obsidian because we're allowing books from December 2012, and Obsidian was published Nov. 29, so I kind of stretched it a little.

Beautiful Disaster? Now THAT is an honest mistake. The silly thing is, I even KNEW it was self-pubbed before this year *head-desk*
At this stage I'm going to leave it in because a LOT of people have voted for it, and I feel kind of dodgy voiding their votes and... eep. I'm kind of torn. I guess, it was 'traditionally' published this year and...

    Eep -__-
Thank you so much for pointing it out. I think I've made a few mistakes here. I'm going to seriously triple check this next year!

    ReplyDelete
  37. *cackles*

MWAHAHAHAHA! ONE! THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE >:D

    ReplyDelete
  38. well, I think it's kind of unfair that BD is on the list (it's had several extra months to gain buzz than some of the books in the list) but I guess taking it off the list now would be unfair as well.
I hope that Quintana is eligible next year as well and that it doesn't take votes away from Froi this time around...

  39. Grayson, I'm SO SORRY. Stupid Akismet marked your comment as SPAM. It's got to do with your 'website url' being listed as Facebook. There have been a STACK of spam comments coming through from 'facebook' accounts.

ANYWAY. YOU ARE NOW WHITELISTED NOW.
So hopefully now more drama ♥

"I must admit I was totally torn having to vote for EITHER Storm or Spark for best book!"

SAME! And as best paranormal? And... in any case, I think you'll be very happy to see how well Brigid is placing ;D

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, I think that, by precedent, Quintana should definitely get a look-in. Eep! It's hard, Andrea! Thanks so much for commenting and giving me the heads up on those :)

  41. What Brodie said. And you're not allowed to use the pages to wipe off your tears- that is against the rules. Let them run, Sarah, let them RUN.

    ReplyDelete
  42. YAY! lol That's OK, I should really use the blog I set up (and never use!:P) Happy to hear that teaser about Brigid, but I knew she would do well. You Aussiementalists RULE! Seems like there is more <3 there than here...c'mon US! Oh, and in case you didn't see the tag on Facebook, Brigid's blog tab now shows up in Chrome! You are MerrickLUSCIOUS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think I counted correctly, I've read three books from the entire list.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 4, but 5 now I've realised I missed Touch of Power from the list:

    Spark
    Storm
    Bitterblue
    Touch of Power
Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight

Congrats! That's some kind of new record, I'm sure ;D

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, wait... you couldn't post in Chrome? Oh... OH! No. Don't worry. It's the stupid SPAM issue. It should be fixed! ♥

Thank you so much! But seriously. Storm AND Spark? I KNOW! WHO DO YOU VOTE FOR? :O

    ReplyDelete
  46. oh, I forgot to check how many I'd read!
    probably way too many XD

    ReplyDelete
  47. hehehe! I'm not sure I want to count, either! It'll make my head EXPLODE. Uh... especially since I bought at least half of them as physical copies? *whistles*
